DAY SERVICES

Day Services

Wabash Center’s Day Services offers a place for the individuals we serve to enjoy a day of activities and achieve their unique goals.  Wabash Center’s objective is to help individuals gain skills and participate in their community of choice. The individuals we serve develop life skills, engage in stimulating activities, and make new social connections. They can grow in areas most important to them.

Day Services operates from 8:30am to 3:30pm, Monday through Friday, at a ratio of 4:1. Each day consists of different opportunities on our Greenbush campus and in the community. Activities include playing games, creating art, enjoying technology time, and learning life skills. We also offer one-on-one specialized classes in computer skills and cooking. Individuals also have free time to explore personal interests.

Day Services are offered at our Greater Lafayette location.

We offer a wide variety of community-based opportunities for skills and social development, based on the wants of the individuals we serve. Outings include:

  • The Columbian Park Zoo

  • local festivals and fairs

  • movie theaters

  • fruit picking at local orchards

  • public attractions

  • sporting events

  • local merchants

Meet David!

David is one of the first individuals that Wabash Center had the privilege to serve and has been with us for 55 years. He has witnessed decades of growth at Wabash Center – not only for himself, but the organization too! David is known for his gentle smile and kind heart. He fills his day with meaningful activities alongside his peers in Wabash Center’s Adult Day Services program. The program recently added a smart room sponsored by Duke Energy which offers our adults adaptive ways to communicate and adds variety to daily activities. David loves reading physical books, but he enjoys the NY2 program and iPads in the smart room where he can choose from numerous publications. He is advocating for how he wants to spend his time, and he loves the changes! New technology is building his confidence and giving David more choices for his day.

Our direct support professionals (DSPs) work to understand each individual on a personal level in order to deliver specialized care. They cater to their interests and goals when designing activities and community outings. Individuals are in small groups with a ratio of four individuals to one staff member.

Meet Nicole!

Nicole is a part of Wabash Center’s team of direct support professionals. She chose to become a DSP because she wanted to make an impact in lives of others who she knew needed support and love. She began her career at Wabash Center over seven years ago and believes this field of work will assist her in every area of life by teaching her different ways to interact with people of all abilities. Though Nicole was nervous about offering direct care to others, she quickly realized that those she serves are no different than anyone else, and that everyone has different ways of doing things with different abilities.
“You just have to treat them with the same respect and understanding as you would anyone else.”
